The Introduction to Human Anatomy and Medical Terminology Course

Published on

The healthcare industry is experiencing a severe staffing shortage. Hospitals, clinics and long-term care centers are struggling to retain and recruit professionals across all levels and specialties. In fact, the World Health Organization projects a 15 million worldwide deficit of healthcare workers by 2030.

Both in terms of the general public and even among allied healthcare students, studies show people do not know enough about basic human anatomy. For example, a study published in Anatomical Sciences Education of 459 visitors at a university found the brain was the only organ identified in the correct location 100% of the time.

Meanwhile, a research report of allied healthcare students published by the American Association For Anatomy found 39.1% of respondents felt most deficient in anatomy terminology, while 98% of those polled recommended students take an anatomy course prior to starting a health professional program.

The MedCerts Introduction to Human Anatomy and Medical Terminology course is designed to fill in those necessary educational building blocks. The 96-hour, 6-week course is written and led by medical experts, including two medical doctors, a medical assistant, a medical technologist and other healthcare professionals. The comprehensive course offers an introduction to human anatomy, physiology and medical terminology, focusing on the structure, function and pathology of the eleven body systems.

It combines in-depth lessons on each body system with 3D/AR immersive activities and mini assessments for an interactive and engaging learning experience. Lessons include Introduction to Medical Terminology, Introduction to Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology, Cells – The Foundation of Life, The Human Body, Integumentary System, Skeletal System, Muscular System, Nervous System, Special Senses, Endocrine System, Cardiovascular System, Blood and Immune Systems, Respiratory System, Digestive System, Urinary System and Reproductive System.

Completion of the Introduction to Human Anatomy and Medical Terminology course will provide students with the following core abilities and knowledge:

  • Analyze and understand medical terminology

Knowledge gained in the course is helpful in virtually any healthcare setting, including hospitals, community and military health centers, medical and dental schools and universities and long-term care facilities.
