For Workforce Student Success, Experience Matters

Published on

Adults returning to school have to overcome a lot more challenges than traditional students. Your clients face issues ranging from self-doubt to fitting in classwork around work and family obligations. They need the type of support they can only get from people and organizations that are fully committed to their success.

When you’re looking for resources to help your clients train for a career that can change their lives, you’ll want to work with educational institutions with a proven track record. Schools that have experience working with nontraditional students — particularly those receiving workforce grants — are better equipped to provide the support and services your clients need to thrive during job training and beyond.

Tips for Choosing Experienced Partners

Since it was enacted in 2014, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) has increased job training opportunities for people who face barriers to employment. However, not all educational organizations are the same. The importance of experience in helping workforce students succeed can’t be overstated. Here are some tips for finding job effective job training programs.

Look for a program with multiple partners

The more job training partners a program has, the more opportunities your clients will have. MedCerts partners with over 400 workforce partners, including community action agencies, adult education providers, vocational rehabilitation centers, and American Job Centers in over 30 states. With so many partners, your clients will have many different options.

Ask how many students have completed the program successfully

Adult students who have obstacles to overcome often need extra guidance and support. When you’re choosing a partner, ask how many students have successfully finished the program and found employment in their fields. Unfortunately, the dropout rate for returning adult students can be high. A program that provides individualized support during the training and helps with the job search afterward can help students persist when times get difficult. After training over 11,000 students through workforce partnerships, MedCerts understands what students need.

Find out about student supports

Many of your workforce students may need assistance developing good study habits or creating resumes and looking for jobs. MedCerts provides students with a full range of services at every step along the way, from admission to landing their first job. Even though students learn online, they’re never alone. Each student is assigned a dedicated Student Success Advisor who provides guidance, motivation, and support from enrollment through certification. This one-on-one mentorship approach ensures that students have a direct line of support for any academic or administrative questions, helping to remove barriers to success.
