Gauging Career Readiness: 5 Things to Look for in Clients

Published on

Few things can be more life-changing for your clients than landing an in-demand, well-paying job with opportunities for growth. However, to get the most out of a job training program and the career that follows, your clients need to be career-ready. This means having the skills and the mindset to successfully complete training and make the transition to a professional position. Here are five signs of career readiness to look for and cultivate in your clients.

5 Signs Your Clients Are Job Ready

Attitude is one of the most important elements in preparing to launch a new career. Having the right attitude will make it much easier for your clients to thrive during their training and when they start a new job.

1. Goal-Oriented

Clients who are focused on achieving their goals will be more motivated to complete the tasks needed to succeed in job training. They’ll also be able to keep long-term career goals in mind, even during difficult times.

2. Positive Mindset

Going back to school as a nontraditional student can be difficult. With a positive mindset, your clients will be better equipped to overcome obstacles and seek the help they need.

3. Receptive to Feedback

Receiving constructive criticism is an important part of learning a new job. Clients who are open to feedback will be able to improve their skills and adapt to corporate culture more quickly.

4. Commitment to Lifelong Learning

Employers predict that 39% of the key skills employees need will change by 2030. Technology is advancing at a rapid pace, and most people will need ongoing upskilling and training to stay relevant in their careers.

5. Ability to Work Independently

Remote and hybrid jobs are more common than ever. While this opens up doors for employers and employees, it also requires people to be able to work without direct oversight. Clients who show initiative and can hold themselves accountable will be better able to complete online training and offer greater value to employers.

What if Your Clients Don’t Have These Traits?

The traits on this list aren’t hard and fast requirements for success. Your clients can still succeed if they don’t have all of them and the right support can help your clients develop these qualities. Going back to school as an adult can be overwhelming, particularly for your clients who have been out of school for a while or are balancing work and family obligations. As a case manager, you’re in a good position to know what your clients need and match them with community resources that can help them grow and succeed.
